You Are Bidding On A 1985 WDW DISCOVERY ISLAND Brochure For A Walt Disney World attraction that is now abandoned & extinct since 1999
Discovery Island was nestled in the middle of Bay Lake, close to the Contemporary Hotel and the Fort Wilderness Campground. It could only be accessed by boat and the official sponsor was “Fiskies”. It was originally a big draw for the Walt Disney Resort in 1974, however, closed in 1999 after the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
This © Walt Disney Productions 1985 Discovery Island Brochure reads: “Discovery Island is an 11 acre sanctuary where animals roam free, and man can touch the spirit of nature. Over 90 species of animals and 250 species of plants inhabit this natural island which is part of the Walt Disney World Resort. Lush tropical foliage including five species of bamboo shield against with and storm. Plants from all over the world shelter and support the Island’s creatures.”
“Exotic animals, reptiles and birds, some threatened with extinction, thrive in this tropical haven. It’s a community devoted to man’s love and respect for nature as well as to research and preservation.”
