This is just an example of one of the many wonderful things that can be created with the
Hershey Chocolate Conches
HERSHEY
THEY'RE BACK!
I think that these are the absolutely
COOLEST
pieces that I have
EVER
had.
A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to work on a once in a lifetime salvaging job at the legendary HERSHEY Chocolate Factory in Hersey, PA. before they closed the old factory to make room for the new state of the art factory. I can remember as a child going to this place for a tour and the air was
SOOOOOOOOOO overwhelming from the scent of Cocoa that I actually got
SICK
. Of course, at my young age, I had no idea .............. nor did I care ............... That the awesome rollers that you are looking at were the reason for the smell.
What you are looking at are parts of a circa 1915
CHOCOLATE CONCHE
. I had never heard of one either so, a chocolate conche is a huge steel or iron tub about 10 X 12 feet with a corrugated granite bottom and a group of these granite rollers with a matching corrugated profile. Hundreds of pounds of Cocoa beans would be dumped into the Conche and these rollers would break the hard outer shell of the bean and begin the process of making
CHOCOLATE!
Too Cool!
Google Chocolate Conche and check out the Wikipedia article on them, eBay won't let us insert the link.
The rollers themselves are made of machined gray Granite. They, the granite roller itself, measure 22 1/2" long and are approximately 11 1/2" in diameter, they vary. The granite roller attach's to a U shaped bracket and then 2 of the rollers with U bracket attach to a cast iron Yoke on top. The entire roller set as shown measures: just shy of 32" tall and is 44" long at the top. At the base, the outside footprint dimensions are 27 1/2" X 53". All told, each complete roller weighs about 830+ lbs. ea. plus the pallet for a total of about 875 lbs. each, times 2.
These granite have a ton of patina and character, these rollers are not perfect, they have there share of war wounds, small chips, rust stains and marks. But that's what makes them special, over 100 years of chocolate making.
In addition, The rollers were each made with a
flat spot
on them so that they will actually rest without rolling. This makes them
IDEAL
for a table base!
This is a
RARE
opportunity. We actually have enough of these bases that someone could do an entire seating area in a cafe and they would all match. How many times have you been in to a restaurant with an Industrial Chic Vibe and wondered what Chemically Soaked atmosphere this old junk came from? These came from
CHOCOLATE!
You don't have to fear what their former use was. What a
FABULOUS THEME
for your new location!
This is the only the second time I've offered these on Ebay, I sold out the first time, and as
HOT
as this stuff is right now, I don't really expect them to last long.

About Us
Md Architectural Rescue is a different type of recycling company. We have operated in
Baltimore
and surrounding areas since 1996. After starting out rescuing fireplace mantles and cast iron door locks from construction dumpsters, we have opened our eyes to may types of waste that are often over looked and fall through the cracks. Our focus is and always will be vintage items of the highest quality. But with our eyes now open we put a lot of effort in bringing you high end collectibles from every industry available and at a very reasonable price. All our items are salvaged and are for the most part American Made. One week we could be in an old School, Brewery, Factory, and the following week at a Shipyard or Power plant, you just never know. Also, one day we may be removing Vintage lighting, the next day Signs and Vintage blueprints and the following day cleaning out a machine shop or high end parts room. We literally have NO idea what we have coming around corner, so make sure you add us to your favorites and check back often.
