Vintage Imported ES Lowe Hand Carved Chess Set.
Made in France.
4.75” kings
with 2" base. Pictured on 2.5" squares!! (board for display only). I relisted with new pictures because I think this set displays best on 2.5" squares, and my original pictures had the pieces displayed on 2.75" squares. The set has larger than typical knights, and sits on the board with a presence. All pieces are original to the set.
This size of ES Lowe chessmen is rarely ever seen. In fact, I think this is the first one I've come across. Almost no defects at all. The pieces have original felts and weights. There is minimal lean (just the queens and black bishop catch my eye, but again, it's typical and nothing too severe).
The slide-top box is intact and has 2 compartments. One 'lip' that holds the lid had a break but it's been repaired.
This is an amazing, rare, large chess set perfect for 2.5" squares.
