Description
Vintage B.F. Cummins "Cub" model photo/check perforator. This is from the Houston-area estate of a photographer who used it topunch “PROOF” on prints that were meant for buyer review. Once a print was selected and paid for, it would be delivered in the size and matte desired. The PROOF stamp prevented simple unauthorized copying of the preliminary prints in the event the buyer did not want to pay for the finished version.
These machines were also used by banks to void checks or punch numerals on checks to make them machine-readable.
Cummins started making check perforators in 1887 that would punch "VOID" on the checks. Their saying at the time was "you can't erase a hole". In the 1940's they bought the Allison payment company, changed the name to Cummins Allison and are still in business today, making bill counters and coin sorters.
Measurements: 8-1/4" long, 4-1/2" wide, 5-3/4" tall (11" tall at handle). Weighs more than 6 lb.
