UNUSUAL TINY ANTIQUE SWISS ENAMEL 18K GOLD BROOCH SWISS ALPS LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Description

An unusually small and intricate Swiss enamel brooch from the mid-Victorian period!
Made of solid 18 carat gold, it's set with a gently rounded porcelain panel decorated with wonderful deeply saturated enamelling, hand painted to depict a lake scene somewhere in the Swiss Alps.
Its bezel is superbly made, with 3d relief crafting and modelled as four interlinked walking sticks, very apt for the Alps, bending round each other in a fun and fascinating way. It's a perfect celebration of the area, which will have been the source of this piece during the Grand Tour of a member of the English gentry. Unusually, it measures just 40 x 30 mm - making it a miniature version of the normally around 3" wide Swiss brooch, a wearable and extremely collectable piece.
It's in superb original condition with an added safety chain to the back and a couple of scratches into the clear coat over the enamel, no cracks or other losses etc. It dates to around 1850 and weighs 5.5 grams.
