Like a shining new leaf of spring, this incredible antique gilded silver brooch is set with some of the finest foiled pastes I've ever seen, they're so bright, clear and beautiful you immediately understand why they were as highly prized as diamonds at the time.
Its body is wonderfully deep, giving it heft and character and real depth relief when seen from an angle - and the amazing handcrafted pierced and engraved floral design is so perfectly done, with fine details that look better the closer you get, it's obvious this was treated as a fine piece throughout its manufacture - and it shows today. It has a wonderful naturalistically rounded body and its back is softly gilded, with a gold pin, extremely high quality fittings and more finely engraved decoration that is invisible when worn.
It really is the whole package, the perfect meeting point of art, design and skilled manufacture.
It dates to around 1880 and is a great size at 2 x 1.5 inches.
