PERTRENKO Kuzma with the 87th border detachment of the NKVD entered into battle with the German waxes while crossing the border at night on June 22, 1941. He was surrounded. He was wounded twice in the left leg and back. He got out of the encirclement on August 3, 1941 near the city of Gomel with a group of 70 people led by Major General Kurlykin (headquarters of the Border Troops of the Belarusian District).
In 1945 he commanded the 13th NKVD border regiment, suppressed the national liberation movement in Lithuania. For the fight against banditry he was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
In 1946 he commanded the 109 NKVD border regiment in the Kuril Islands (after the annexation of the islands from Japan). He created a base for the deployment of the regiment and organized the border service in harsh climatic conditions.
He began to drink alcoholic drinks, turned into a drunkenness. At the end of 1949, they were released from the duty .... There were several appointments in border waxes in Ukraine and Georgia. The drunkenness continued. In February 1953, Colonel Kuzma Petrenko was dismissed on the verdict of the officer's court of honor. This is the end of military service for Colonel PETRENKO....

Leading a group of border guards numbering 60 people. with skillful and decisive actions, he destroyed the crews of heavy machine guns and up to 30 enemy machine gunners, and put the rest to flight. Twice wounded comrade. Petrenko K.P. did not leave the leadership of the group, fought for 6 hours!
On July 17, 1941, near the village of Brusinevichi, an anti-tank battery and 8 checkers were destroyed under his leadership. In the area of the Fanipol station with a group of border guards of 80 people. entered into battle with an enemy company, supported by a tank and advancing in the defense sector of the 108th Infantry Division and threatening the Field Office of the 3rd Army. Skillful actions comrade. Petrenko K.P. ensured the exit from the encirclement of the command of the 3rd Army, headed by the commander of the army, Lieutenant General Kuznetsov.
Border guards under the command of Captain Petrenko K.P. more than 10 times went into the deep rear of the enemy, obtaining valuable intelligence data. From April 1, 1944 to March 30, 1945, the regiment had 31 military clashes during which 2035 German soldiers and officers and 374 bandits were killed and captured. As a result of properly organized service and operational intelligence work, 170 spies were detained and exposed. In 1944 the regiment distinguished itself during the liberation of Vilno.
During the liquidation of the East Prussian grouping of German troops south-west of Konigsberg, the regiment's subunits acted directly in the combat formations of the Red Army units or immediately behind them, promptly seized the enemy's sabotage and terrorist agents, ensuring the normal operation of the military rear.
Since October 1945, the 13th frontier regiment of the NKVD Troops Directorate for the protection of the rear of the active Red Army in the Far East.
