Besserat de Bellefon Ay-1er Cru Vintage Champagne Argit, France, Ice Bucket. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Hard to find Besserat de Bellefon Ay-1er Cru advertising champagne bucket in, what I believe, is nickel chrome. It has a raised letter nameplate and grapevine handles. I’m not sure of the metal. It does not attract a strong magnet, and I don’t think it’s silver plated, but I haven’t attempted to clean it up in any way. Has a nice patina from age. I’m calling it nickel chrome based on another one I saw online very much like it. But, please understand I’m not an expert and I am unsure of the metal composition. Marked Made in France, Argit on bottom.
Approximately 8 inches tall with a diameter of about 7.75 inches at mouth. Base diameter is about 5.25 inches.
In good original vintage condition. Please see photographs. There is some corrosion on both sides from metallic reaction so look at close-up photos to see description. Does not effect integrity of piece. It is solid and holds water fine. The corrosion appears as a light drip all the way down on the left side, but is rather much more pronounced on the right side. It may clean up, I didn’t attempt. Very heavy, the champagne bucket weighs about 2.5 pounds. Discoloration to inside from use. There’s a very slight dent to one side, I tried to photograph in photo 5, but it really doesn’t show much. Again use photos to guide your bid. I always strive to describe items to the best of my ability and I try to take honest, close up photos so that they’re part of the description.
It is marked on bottom, Made in France, Argit. A strikingly lovely vintage ice bucket, it is a beautiful display piece and fully functional as well.
Note that if I can save on shipping costs by pricing with FedEx at time of shipment, I will refund any overage you pay on shipping. Could ship for less using ground, but don’t trust that service as much.
Interesting note:
Premiere Cru (1er Cru): Translates to “First Growth” and is used in Burgundy and Champagne to distinguish the region’s 2nd best vineyards.
