- Carved hand features solid 10K yellow gold metal bands on finger, wrist, and cuff
- Brooch measures 2" in length (tip of pointing finger to cuff ruffle - end to end)
- Pointing finger slightly curved downward
- Weighs 2.6 Grams
- Metal acid tested, 10K drop on right and 14K drop on left (view photo of test stone)
- Brooch in excellent condition (minor signs of wear, carving imperfections, age related dark lines)
- Dark lines on both sides of hand exterior shown in photos
- Tube hinge and C catch are original and secure

Hand motifs in antique jewelry delivered messages, especially during the Victorian era.  The messages were obsessed with love and loss.  Queen Victoria set the tone for this after the death of her beloved husband, Prince Albert.  She was devastated by his passing, and mourned him for the remainder of her life.  A perfect example of hand motifs regarding loss is the pointing finger brooch.  It's meant to serve as a confirmation of life after death.
