Description
Circa 1880s base for a shoofly or sometimes called shoo fly mechanical swatter chaser fan. This is for the base only, the complete unit has wires and fabric wings. It was usually found in a saloon bar, general store or gambling halls for the patron. I read these were made by National Enameling and Stamping in Baltimore, MD, but there is no label on this one. There is a windup clock mechanism inside and when you give this one a spin it rotates smooth. If you're looking for a replacement base or parts, this is a great find. Has rust and wear as shown. Estate find.
