    Description
Vintage 1930s THOMAS EDISON Voicewriter Ediphone Electric Machine Wax Cylinder Recording Dictaphone Restoration
The Edison Ediphone Dictating Machine was released 1909-1921, but I am not sure about the date for this particular later machine. An Ediphone Transcribing Machine has a 1930s date, so that sounds about right. The first thing that is noticeable is that it is missing a mouth piece. I haven't been able to locate an electrical cord, but there is a 2 prong outlet in the lower back side.  It comes with a few VoiceWriter Master Wax cylinders, but only two are complete and three paper 'mail pockets'. There are small casters on the bottom so it is reasonably easy to move.
I am not an expert and having purchased it at an estate auction, I don’t know if this machine has all the parts or if it is in working condition. I have done my best to clean it up, but more work is needed to make it pristine. The steel cabinet, mechanisms  and all the parts are extremely sturdy. This piece of equipment was well made and intended to last!
Dimensions are about 33" height x 12-3/4" width x 11" depth.  Weight for the unit including contents is 58 pounds. When the top mechanical section is moved forward, a middle door lifts up and a paper tray can be moved into position as pictured. The swing-out bottom drawer holds 8 cylinders and a supply of paper 'mail pockets'. It measures 10-3/4" width  x 15" depth. There are 2 wax cylinders with their original collars intact in the drawer. Please supersize to examine the photos and ask if you need more views.
As far as I can tell, this historical apparatus is in good physical condition with  surface wear, some dents and is ready to restore or display.
