For your consideration is a gorgeous vintage Soviet Russian Tournament Chess set similar to sets used by World Champion Mikhail Botvinnik and Salo Flohr during the 1950's. Its been called the Botvinnik-Flhor II Chessmen. Similar sets were used in the 1956 Moscow Olympiad, Soviet Championships and Soviet Tournaments. The listing is for the chess pieces only, there is no board or box. The 32 piece set is good used condition with finish wear, more prevalent on the black pieces. The King's finials are made of aluminum. Not sure if these are replacements or original to the set. See pictures. Kings measure approx. 4 1/4" in height with a 1 5/8" diameter base. Pawns are 2 1/4" in height. The 32 piece set is nicely weighted The wide-base pieces have a good feel and handle well. Piece bottoms are covered in a pinkish red color felt and show wear. The white pieces display a beautiful patina. A gorgeous and fabulous historical set for tournament, blitz or home play and a great addition to one's collection.
